Fall and Football
Whoa! Where did September go? My favorite weather is here- 70 degrees, sunny and windy. I LOVE it! Football here we come. I am so excited for tomorrow- family coming and huge tailgating, fires in the pit in the backyard, hot cider and Chex mix. Doesn't get a whole lot better. Kelly's been baking , getting ready for Homecoming at her Alma Mater. ( and our company ,too-thanks!) House is fairly cleaned,( hard to keep up with a black lab and all her hair...) fixings for chili are in the fridge. It's amazing to think back and realize that I did this almost every weekend for a LONNNNNNG time when we were in major college football jobs. It's so fun to be back in the Big Ten and a part of it all again. Have a great weekend! Go Hoosiers- beat the Buckeyes ( with apologies to my Ohio roots and in-laws-OSU grads). Hey, we root for the team that pays the bills!!

To Market, to Market
As I was peeling the last of the shriveled, dried up strawberries, ( I can't eat seeds or I wouldn't be spending time making them naked), my thoughts ran to the Farmer's Market. I am going later this morning , but I will not find strawberries as they are a June product. Every week the paper lists what new produce will be at the market dependent on the growing season. I love it! The peaches have been the best lately, and my daughter's favorite are the amazing array of gladiola colors. They last a week, well worth the $.90 apiece you pay! Then the fall brings apples, pumpkins, squash. And football. Nothing like the crisp, cool, sunny 70 degree days of fall. My favorite.
So I am off to the Market with my youngest, and my husband who surprise, surprise doesn't have to work today. What a blessing.
Enjoy the day.

Bite Your Tongue
Ahh, the first official morning of spring break (yesterday). I'm sleeping in until I wake up- no alarm. What a wonderful feeling. Until about 7:30a.m. when my husband says, "What's that noise?" Now he has NEVER been the one in the middle of the night to investigate anything- I'm the one with the bat/lamp/shoe in hand that goes to find out what is lurking in our midst. Somehow he even managed to sleep through the loudest of crying, screaming, and throwing up all through our kids' childhoods. So I dutifully get out of bed, lift the window, and look out to see where the noise is coming from. Bam! The window falls out on my head. ( The ones that fold out so you can clean both sides of the window from the inside-never used in almost 13 years of living here). I bite my tongue -it is bleeding. "Ith our neighborth yard servith," I tell my husband. "Could you pleath get thith window off my head, I bit my tongue." And he has the audacity to ask how I could bite my tongue opening the window. Not, "Honey, are you O.K.?" But he did take me out to dinner at Steak and Shake once the bleeding stopped. Chocolate milkshakes cure everything. We shared a $5.99 coupon meal to stay within our Total Money Makeover ala Dave Ramsey. More on that later. For now we're off to Rosie's for $.59 coffee.
